Feb Draw a Day 05 by will-Ruzicka Feb Draw a Day 05 by will-Ruzicka
Loved this guy as a kid... used to draw him ALL the time. But that ended around the age of 9 or 10, I think? I used to wonder why they used every other weapon that robot had before eventually resorting to the sword bisecting the guy technique? Why not just start out with the sword and be done with it?
I was a sarcastic shit even as a kid.

Did you know the same guy who did the episode direction for the original Golion was also the original creator of Tekkaman and Gatchaman?

I did not know that, but I think you can see it in the character designs, so yeah... not too surprised to learn that.

I totally did not know what you meant by Lassie... I was thinking of the damned Dog. (I've only seen one episode of Psyche, the Dual Spires episode) But that was pretty cool!

I'm pretty sure that the sword was left as a last resort because it consumed a tremendous amount of energy to generate.
This drawing's badass.

Doesn't change the fact that they ALWAYS had to end up using it. ^_~
They would consume all that energy for the weak attacks, and then finally be like "Fine, we'll use it again."
So in the long run, had they just started with the sword, less energy would have been used. 9_9

You've taken the "GoLion" route a little bit with the blood, but I don't mind it; it's still "Voltron."

I dunno... maybe I was a demented kid, but I REMEMBER it being bloody... and characters dying. But when I look back I realize they edited stuff out, and claimed dead people were on the "Hospital Planet" getting better.

I always said the same thing myself about them wasting time by using all useless weaponry first and finishing with the blazing sword which they should have formed in the first place. But, I guess like WWF or WWE voltron has his finishing move too.

They could have created a reason for needing to finish with it instead of starting with it... like... it takes a long time to charge, or they don't want to use it because it depletes their energy so much that if they miss they'll be sitting ducks... and then have them miss once or twice to really drive it home.

Sorry, I think about these sorts of things at my job all the time.

haha XD sure that was really cool and funny that time. Here at that time I wasn't drawing hard things so never got to draw my ideas, but was cool to play with friends and see together Voltron on the afternoons and imagine things about it.

I remember too that in those times was when we saw G-Force too, and we wanted to be part of that team. I have a friend that was in love with the protagonist (I can't remember the name now ^^;)that was the number 1 and the captian of the team, and for me I was in love with Dirk that was the number 2 :XD: so we didn't fight for that haha

you know... I don't know why, but I don't remember this show at all. I lived out in the boonies and we had a real crap arial antennae, so it's possible this was broadcast on a channel we didn't get. =P

I know I missed Captain Power because we didn't get Channel 5 at all. The first episode I saw was actually the last episode of the series. >.<

I was not a fan of vehicle force voltron. I actually drew parody pictures at the age of 9 making fun of Vehicle Force Voltron... images of a planet sized robot being constructed by hundreds of tiny ships.

I remember also feeling like the girl in the chest piece ship was useless... her ship had no weapons, or any discernable structural advantage to the robot, yet when she had a hissy fit and quit the team this one guy was like "We can't form Voltron without her!" As a cynical kid I was like "WHY? You can't form Voltron without a useless thing attached to the chest??"

lets jump to conclusions: if they ended the fight 5 minutes in they'd have to fill the other 21 minutes with the guys making smalltalk with the princess. if neckbeard children back then learned social skills at that age there would be an explosion in the amount of nerds raising kids today, leaving a lack of lifeless people and keeping the mainstream the same old crap it still is.

damn i love jumping to conclusions. anyway, good pic. i love seeing the blood in there as opposed to whatever else they had as it's replacement in censored tv.

I dunno... just have the sword not work sometimes maybe. Come up with a new way to have to beat the guy. I realize the problem also comes from the American studios having to edit out the real violent things and just use recycled animations... but still.

And to be honest one of the scenes that stuck with me from that show the most was not robot killing related, it was the swimming pool scene.

I've realized looking back at this show that I am the same perverted, sarcastic bastard I was at that young age... o_o

the pool scene is one of the few memorable things i saw about 3 years ago on adult swim lol.

honestly you could do much worse with japan. i grew up with the original pokemon show, seeing misty's skimpy outfit wis the best thing ever back then. today i wonder how they aired it at all lol.

It's the same guys who made that crappy Chaotic cartoon, i even made a harsh criticism to the guy who was involved in the show over at Toonzone and since he hasn't shown up to at least comment of how people feel about the show which it's mostly negative.

This is why i prefer the guys behind Sym-Bionic Titan where involved, the CGI had better effects and don't get me started with the fights, very Voltron style.

Well... to be honest, I like to think people don't intentionally make bad cartoons. I thought G.I. Joe Renegades was going to be a LOT better than it turned out. And it's not that the people working on it weren't talented, it's just the nature of the business. Sacrifices need to be made and... I probably shouldn't go into it too much.

As for Symbiotic Titan, there was certainly a lot of old school anime influencing Gennedy<sp?>

Yeah but you gotta admit to that they know they are expecting old fans to watch the new shows and they have a huge responsibility in their shoulders to make a decent remake, reboot or continuation of the old shows. the guy knew that not only kids of this generation will watch the show but also the old fans and really they where disappointed on how bad they made the cartoon, the animation is stiff, the character designs are horrible and adding those stupid cadets didn't bring much into the story arc.

That's why i prefer 10 times watching Sym-Bionic Titan since Genndy Tartakovsky did do justice to the classic Giant Robots shows like Mazinger, Grendizer and Voltron, it sad that a good show gets canceled and a really bad show it's still on the air.

Well, working in the business I can say there are all sorts of things that get in the way of creating something simply to create something cool. If it costs too much to make, if they don't think it can be marketed for toys and such. It's sad, but true.
Also, with a show like Voltron, there are possibly creators working on it who want to be faithful to the original and bring in the old fans, but the new fans are really who they want. They want young kids to want to buy up Voltron toys and other various merchandise.

This is just speculation based on my two years on in the inside.
