Feb Draw a Day 12 by will-Ruzicka Feb Draw a Day 12 by will-Ruzicka
Again with the Robotech. This time the Southern Cross saga... I don't remember this saga as much, but I remember her hair... that MASSIVE amount of hair.
I'm not sure I drew the right mech... finding images on google image while at the laundromat using my iPhone was a little hard. At one point I was looking at an EXO Squad toy.
I cheated a little with the BG... I went on sketchup and pulled up a random city model that I modified a little to increase the number of buildings.

Anyway... I guess this means tomorrow needs to be Robotech Mospaeda(sp?)

I never watched Exo Squad. Perhaps the toys were based on re-used molds?

i remember Lt. Dana Sterling operating a VHT-2 Spartas Hovertank,  in the pic here she has a VFA-5 Logan Veritech Fighter which bwelongs to the RDF Naval Air Group.

Oh, I know it's the wrong mech... but I liked the open cockpit design and so... there it is.

Awesome.
Though in the show she never flew of the one planes, driving the tanks instead, I imagine she could have flown one of the planes too.

Didn't I make that concession in the description? I just liked the look of this mech better... I didn't re-watch the whole show and my memory from when I was 6 or 7 years old is a little foggy, so I just made some stuff up that I thought made a nice picture.

Awesome dude, not unlike a Southern Cross piece I did recently, at least from this persepctive. I like your take on the logan, it is more modern and powerful looking than the original and you do justice to a much maligned mecha from Southern Cross. Instant Fave!

Hey, looks like you have better references for the mechs than I had. I unfortunately didn't have time to watch the series when putting this together. ^^;;;

Though I have rented the original Japanese Souther Cross from Netflix.

Well you have a broader subject matter base that you seem to work from. All bad ass by the way. I am a huge fan of the 80's material you seem to favor. Your work is awesome. Great dynamism in your composition and character interpretation.

I tend to focus narrowly on Robotech/macross so yes I do have lots of reference material. Years of collecting it in fact. It is only in the last couple of years that I have begun making use of it in my own art. You however still do a fantastic job interpreting the mecha with little reference and creating original works that bring out the essence of the source material...

Thank you! Glad you approve, as someone who seems to know the show better than I do. I actually rented Southern Cross from Netflix... just haven't watched it yet.

Ooo my favorite character as I was growing up: Dana Stirling aka Jeanne Francaix! Such a nutball.

She also looks like another character made at the same time From Orguss: Maai. Just give her brown hair, glasses and neck tentacles.

Like the city falling away behind her and the messed up look of the Logan.

Yeah, I stumbled on some Orguss videos on youtube when I was looking into this. I had no idea what was going on. Except that some chick got pregnant from kissing a guy apparently.

Haven't even gotten through the first few Macross Saga episodes, but this is just amazing. There so much detail, depth, and scale in this it kind of leaves my jaw on the floor.

Yes. Dana Sterling's hair is the stuff of Hair LEGEND. I still haven't watched the Robotech The Masters/The Southern Cross saga all the way through though I hope to sometime soon. I think next to The Macross Saga my favorite saga is the Robotech The New Generation/Mospeada. I thought the characters were awesome as was the story, Scott Bernard, Rand, Rook, Lunk, Lancer, Annie/Mint, Ariel Princess of the Invid, all of it. And then Robotech The Shadow Chronicles I thought was a good movie and continuation of the series.

Good job once again :) The detailing in the mecha she is flying is very nice as is the detail on herself. The detailing in the building/s that she is breaking is also very good.

I haven't seen Shadow Chronicles, either. I wasn't sure if it was for me. What I remembered most fondly from Robotech was the Macross saga... and I've moved on to watching the original Macross, I wasn't sure if I wanted to keep an alternate storyline in my mind.

Thanks for the compliments!
